Cheese Scones
Ingredients
450g self-raising flour
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper
2 tsp baking powder
110g chilled butter, cubed
240g grated cheddar cheese
200ml milk, plus 2 tbsp for glazing
Directions
Heat the over to 200C / gas mark 6. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
Sift the flour, salt, pepper and baking powder into a bowl and mix together.
Add the butter and rub with your fingertips to make breadcrumbs. Add 200g of cheese and mix well.
Make a well in the centre and add enough milk to give a soft but firm dough.
Flour a work surface and roll out the dough to around 2cm thick. Cut out scones with a 8cm cutter and put on the baking tray.
Glaze with a little of the leftover milk and sprinkle on some extra cheese.
Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and cooken through.
